Track worker Reto accompanies the audience on a journey from Chur to St Moritz. Along the way, chief engineer Friedrich Hennings, Italian labourer Giovanni Cotti and senior conductor Rätus emerge from history. Amid tracks, viaducts and tunnels, feats of engineering intertwine with personal stories of migration, labour, love and loss – and with the lives of the people who built the Albula Railway and lived alongside it.
