BAGAT – producziun da teater

Mobile Romansh-language theatre for young audiences and families

The name ‘Bagat’ refers to the first card in the tarot deck – and to a restless, fidgety character.
‘Bagat – producziun da teater’ is a theatre initiative established by Roman Weishaupt together with director Claudia Carigiet. Organised as an association, it is built around the idea of a professional Romansh-language theatre company for children, young people and families. All participating artists are trained and experienced theatre professionals.
At Bagat, the Romansh language is not merely a means of communication but becomes a space for play, exploration and experimentation. This playful engagement with language lies at the artistic heart of its productions. As a shared Romansh stage language, ‘Rumantsch da tribuna’ creates equal access across the boundaries of the different idioms. It surprises, challenges and opens up new linguistic horizons. Bilingual versions and adaptations into German also make the productions accessible to German-speaking audiences.
Bagat is a touring theatre company without a permanent venue. The ensemble goes directly to its audiences, taking its productions throughout the Rumantschia and performing in schools, villages and unusual locations. With around 100 performances to date, Bagat has reached a broad audience. These include approximately 20 performances presented at schools in Chur during the pandemic.
